About 557 million tons of Azerbaijani oil transported via BTC in total
About 557 million tons of Azerbaijani oil have been transported via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline to date.
As reported by the Ministry of Energy, 20 years ago – on June 4, 2006 – the first tanker loaded with export crude oil supplied via BTC was sent from the Turkish port of Ceyhan to world markets.
Via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, oil produced at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli block of fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea and condensate produced at the Shah Deniz field are transported from Azerbaijan. BTC originates from the Sangachal terminal and, passing through the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, reaches the Ceyhan marine terminal on the Turkish coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
Filling the BTC pipeline, officially commissioned in June 2006, with oil began on May 10, 2005, and the first crude oil arrived at the Ceyhan terminal on May 28, 2006.
