EU aviation fuel reserves would have run out by end of summer without opening of Hormuz
The European Union is continuously monitoring the situation with the supply of fuel to the aviation sector, whose commercial reserves would have been completely exhausted in Europe by the end of summer in the event of a continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
This was stated by EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen.
"We have long been paying special attention to the aviation fuel sector," he said in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa. "Without the resumption of navigation through the strait, commercial reserves would have run out by the end of summer. That is why we sincerely hope that the peace agreement will be long-term and will indeed lead to the full opening of the strait in the shortest possible time."
On June 17, US President Donald Trump stated that the Strait of Hormuz "is already partially open" and will fully open for navigation in the next day or two.
On June 14, the US and Iran announced that they had agreed on a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict. On June 18, Trump stated that he had signed the memorandum.
